Settling in Log Homes

The term, Settling, refers to the property of log walls to experience a reduction in height as each log shrinks due to moisture loss, and compresses due to the weight of the wall. Settling is not usually a problem if logs are pre-shrunk by either air drying or kiln drying, and proper construction techniques are used that compensate for any Settling that might occur.
