Green Logs for Log Homes

The term, Green Logs, refers to timber that is fresh-cut from the forest. It still contains all or most of its moisture content. Generally, log home companies do not use Green Logs for construction because the logs will shrink and warp as they dry. Most log home companies dry their logs before milling to ensure that most of the shrinkage has occured. An exception is that many handcrafted log homes are built with Green Logs, but special construction techniques are used to account for future shrinkage and compression.
